What is a butt hinge?
A butt hinge is a type of door or window hinge that consists of two separate parts. This makes it easy to move the door in and out of the frame with an upward movement, without loosening any screws. It consists of a plate with a pin and a plate with a hole that fit together. This feature makes hinges particularly useful for interior doors and rebated doors, and for situations where doors require maintenance or replacement.
One part of the hinge attaches to the door frame. The other part attaches to the door itself. The two parts then fit together perfectly, with the pin sliding into the corresponding hole, which firmly secures the door to the frame.
Advantages
– Easy to install and remove: The door can be easily hung by sliding the parts together and removed by an upward movement.
– Convenient for maintenance: This makes removing the door for maintenance, repair or replacement particularly easy.
– Suitable for rebated doors: Hinge hinges are often used for hanging rebated doors (doors that extend slightly over the frame) and rebated doors.
